Christmas Wrapup/RAZR Firmware
Christmas time has come and past. Didn’t seem like it stayed for very long. Now comes the hustle and bustle of preparing for any New Years celebrations anyone may be attending (Translation: No change for myself, as I plan on working, enjoying the company of friends and close ones, and taking it easy).
I got a particularly awesome Christmas present this year which seals my fate in the hobbies department. Ever since I got my RAZR over the summer, I took lots and lots of pictures. Over time I discovered that I enjoyed taking pictures and wanted a real camera, not just a little camera phone camera. Well, lo and behold, I am now the proud owner of my Canon PowerShot SD400. Now I’ll be able to throw some really cool images on my album and possibly get some cool wallpapers (as you never could really get a 2592×1944 picture from the camera phone).
Another particularly awesome Christmas present I received this year was more or less discovered by me and given to myself. For some reason I checked out Google to see if you could get firmware upgrades for the RAZR. Turns out you can. After discovering I had an old flash version and an old flex version, I backed up all my stuff (minus my ringtone.. D’oh!), and performed the firmware updates. 10 minutes later, the phone rebooted. Upon reboot, I discovered that:
* My memory space went from 5MB to 8MB
* The video camera mode was now available
* Boot up time was quicker, and the phone was mostly faster overall
* Automatic Network Time Update broke for some reason Automatic Network Time works just fine ![]()
So if you, or anyone you know has a RAZR and doesn’t have 8MB of free space and the video camera mode activated, perhaps you should suggest to them that they should get their firmware updated. Granted they’ll loose all their information, but if you’re smart and perform a backup before hand, you can restore all the data and everything will be OK.
Unfortunately for me, I now have to re-create my ringtone. Before it was Hoobastank. Not sure who I’ll pick this time..
(If I know you and you want your RAZR upgraded, let me know. I can back up and restore ringtones, contacts, calendar, photos, and movies after the upgrade process.)
