No more love for Windows XP
This week marked yet another stab at the heart of Windows XP.
Say you’ve got a copy of Windows XP. You had to do a “reinstall” and now Windows wants to activate. You run the activation process and find out that you need to call Microsoft because your key could not be verified. Of course, you’d call Microsoft, tell the person that this was the only machine you were installing Windows XP on, and they’d give you the activation key. Now they’ve made it a lot easier. Now you just call and you get a machine for the entire process. My guess is if you have a key that hasn’t been blacklisted, you can activate Windows to your heart’s content and never talk to a human.
I can pretty much guarantee Windows Vista’s Over-the-phone Activation process doesn’t get this same comfort level.

PS–For the record, when I called and activated, it was in fact a legit copy with a legit key. Just in case you were wondering.
