If you don’t use this program for anything else, the ability to type sudo <program_name> is probably the coolest thing ever.
Speaking of things you need, if you’re a student, you should check out Channel 8 on MSDN (which is not the same as the familiar Channel 9 or the Discovery Channel). Sign in and prove you’re a student, and get free copies of not-free software (like Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition, Expression Studio, Windows Server 2003 Standard, and xna Game Studio 2.0).
