First, there was Jaker’s Blog, hosted on Blogger, and written because I didn’t want to do my Accounting homework.

Then came Jaker’s Blog 2.0, hosted on my site and running WordPress. It was good.

Then came Jaker’s Blog 3.0, still hosted on my site and now running b2evo. It was very good for a very long time.

But times have changed. The blog was updated (to b2evo 1.10.1-beta “Orlando” ! ). And it finally received it’s own site that it has deserved.

Introducing Jaker’s Blog 4.0. Same great stories and posts, but now the URL is 78.39% easier to remember. http://jakersblog.com That’s it. Nothing fancy. No slashes. No special characters. No paragraphs. Just pure simple.

Now that’s something to 4.0 over.

My thanks to anyone/everyone who’s still reading along. I know there’s been slow points, and I’m working on resolving that. Stay tuned for more great entertainment.

~Jaker

EDIT: Yes, “Jaker’s Blog 3.11 : Not just for Workgroups Anymore” was considered, but was declined. I didn’t want to go down that path, as it would end at “Jaker’s Blog ME,” and end up being the crappiest blog on earth.

That’s right. Look over to the left and check out that new category. Yes, it says Politics. Read it and weep. Yes, I did make a promise a long time ago that I would stray as far away as possible from politics on this blog, but I’ve decided to change that a bit. The politics you’ll see on this blog will be very very focused on items that directly or indirectly affect technology. If they make a law that destroys Satellite Radio, you’ll hear about it here. Stuff like that.
Other items of politics may come into play here and there, but if they do it will be a rare occasion.

Just a heads up.

PS–Yes, that’s 3 posts in a short period of time (I was going to say all in the same day, but this one falls on the next day). I’ve finally got my blogging spark back and plan to exercise it. Be prepared for some (possible?) good reading.

Blog Update

Good evening folks!
No, I didn’t forget my password, nor did I forget that this blog existed. I was merely way too busy for a long time. Now that things have died down/I’ve adjusted to the demanding schedule/both have occurred, I’ll be able to update more often.

Oh yeah, blog updated to 1.8.2 “Serenity” with a new skin installed. 1.8.2 is the first stable release on the new architecture. Horray!

Blog Engine updated to 1.8beta “Summer Beta!”

Bugs may ensue. amy_skin upgraded (because the work was already done for me). blueC has not. Stand by for further details..

~Jaker

Update–It’s been a few hours of tedious code rewriting and I’m now stuck getting a bizarre “Please, do not access this page directly” error with the blueC (now officially called blueJeans) skin. Still working at this, although I’m thinking I might just rewrite this sucker from scratch. Time for a crash course in PHP!

Update 2–Hell yes, my skin is back! Now it’s time to do some finalizing in the background so this new skin is rocking and ready to go. (Time to fall back to the previous post and update my checklist)

**BLOG TERROR ALERT LEVEL: VERY RED ELEVATED**
This blog will be subject to being upgraded to b2evolution 1.8beta “Summer Beta” within the next 24 hours. The upgrade is complete. Now I just need to finish up some little stuff. At least the skin is ported over–THAT was a pain. All Readers should continue to be vigilant, take notice of their surroundings, and report suspicious blog activity to /dev/null.

Checklist for myself (skip for sanity’s sake or read for enjoyment)
* Backup original database
* Backup skins
* Upgrade/Install new engine (blah blah)
* Reinstall linkthumb
* Port/convert blueC (now blueJeans) and amy_skin to new 1.8beta skin format (***tedious work alert..blog terror alert level elevated to “reddest red you’ve ever seen in your life”***)
* Reinstall captcha Please note that I understand the captcha letters are a little hard to read. I’ll be selecting better fonts over the next few days. Until then, you can press the little refresh button next to the image to generate a hopefully-clearer/easier to read image.
* Create new supporting files for blueJeans and delete old unnecessary files

Tape up your windows! Keep bottled water in the basement! Things are gonna get interesting (just a heads up!)

Skin Update

Well, nautica2l was a nice skin but I didn’t like the spacing between lines. Plus I wanted to get away from the white background on soft-grey text.
So…
After some intense image editing and some CSS hacking I have created my new masterpiece:
blueC

Go ahead.. Try it and tell me what you think of it. This is technically my first skin that I spent some time “creating.”

I am finally changing hosting. Chris from GlobalDC was fabulous, but he has since handed the company over to a friend and I found a better hosting deal elsewhere. My site may go down over the next 48 hours, but we’ll be back up and running asap.
